Design and Construction of Ventilated Facades in Terracotta and Terracotta

Terracotta represents the perfect synthesis of Italian architectural tradition and technological innovation. At VM Group, we design and install ventilated terracotta façade systems that guarantee high thermal insulation and a timeless aesthetic. From the concealed hook solutions designed for BP Studio in Florence to the technological cladding for the European Space Agency (ESA), every project is meticulously designed to ensure the building envelope's durability and natural breathability.

ESA ESRIN Headquarters – Technological Excellence in Frascati
Terracotta Engineering at the Service of the European Space Agency

At ESA's ESRIN center in Frascati, VM Group created a terracotta ventilated façade that perfectly embodies the agency's values of innovation and sustainability. In a context where scientific research requires controlled, high-performance environments, our envelope guarantees superior standards of thermal insulation and durability.
The project required pinpoint precision in installation to clad complex technological spaces, using cutting-edge dry anchoring systems.
This project is not only a tribute to Italy's material tradition, but also an advanced engineering solution that protects ESA's critical infrastructure, demonstrating VM Group's ability to meet the most stringent international technical specifications.

Ventilated Facade and Brise-soleil in Imprunetino Terracotta | Rome
Ventilated Facade and Brise-soleil in Imprunetino Terracotta | Rome

The project documents the creation of a complex architectural envelope that combines the tradition of Impruneta terracotta with the performance of a ventilated façade. Thanks to the integration of brise-soleil systems, the building achieves active solar control, reducing summer heat loads and ensuring the thermal comfort required by ESCo standards.
Technical Features:

  • Digital Survey: Substructure design based on laser scanning to ensure perfect, accurate alignment of the brise-soleils.

  • Performance: Optimization of thermal lag thanks to the natural properties of the fine brick.

  • Construction Site Efficiency: Rapid anchoring systems to optimize installation times on large commercial surfaces.

Condominium Renovation in Bologna – Cotto & Parklex
Material Synergy and Energy Savings: The New Face of Living

The energy efficiency upgrade project completed on this apartment building in Bologna is a perfect example of how ventilated façade technology can transform urban aesthetics while dramatically improving building performance.
Across a total area of 3,000 square meters, VM Group designed a solution that harmoniously combines the traditional warmth of terracotta with the modernity of Parklex engineered wood panels. This combination of materials not only lends the structure a distinctive, contemporary feel, but also leverages the properties of both materials to ensure a highly efficient protective envelope. Thanks to the open-joint natural ventilation system, the building benefits from constant moisture management and optimal thermal insulation, significantly increasing the property's asset value and the residents' living comfort.

BP Studio Florence – The Haute Couture of Terracotta Architecture
2,500 sq m of Sartorial Excellence: Design by Claudio Nardi and Engineering by VM Group

In Florence, the home of terracotta, VM Group completed a project of extraordinary aesthetic and technical complexity for the BP Studio headquarters. Spanning 2,500 square meters, the ventilated terracotta façade becomes a design element thanks to the use of a concealed hook system, allowing the purity of the material to be enjoyed without visual interference.
The project's true distinguishing feature is the integration of sunshades made from original molds designed by architect Claudio Nardi. These custom components not only regulate solar gain for optimal energy efficiency, but also lend the building a unique and unrepeatable architectural signature. This project blends industrial production with artisanal attention to detail, positioning VM Group as the ideal partner for signature architecture.
