Decarbonization 2030: The Building Envelope as a Strategic Asset

Envelope Engineering: VM Group's response to the energy transition.

The building sector is responsible for 40% of global energy consumption.
Achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 is no longer just an ethical goal, but a regulatory and financial requirement.
VM Group transforms buildings from "energy cost centers" to "active decarbonization devices" through the integration of ultra-high-performance ventilation systems.

The Three Pillars of the VM Group Strategy

1. Passive Efficiency: Drastically Reduced Energy Demand

  • Thermal Neutralization: The use of high-density insulation (such as rock wool) combined with the natural chimney effect reduces winter heat loss and summer overheating.

  • Reduction of Operating Costs: Minimizing the use of mechanical air conditioning systems directly reduces CO2 emissions from electricity consumption and fossil fuels.

2. Active Technologies: The Facade as a Generator and Purifier

  • Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV): We transform the building envelope into a distributed power plant. Integrated photovoltaic modules replace traditional cladding materials, producing renewable energy exactly where it is consumed.

  • Bio-activation (TiO2): The use of photocatalytic titanium dioxide surfaces transforms the façade into a static purifier, neutralizing NOx and SOx and improving urban air quality.

  • Predictive Intelligence (SensoIA): Through advanced sensors, we monitor the system's thermal efficiency in real time. SensoIA identifies performance deviations before they become energy waste, ensuring the building maintains its "Zero Emission" profile throughout its entire life cycle.

3. Circular Economy and Low-Impact Materials

  • Rigorous Selection: We favor materials with a high percentage of recycled content (aluminum, zinc, ceramic) and certified low-emission production processes.

  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA): We design demountable and durable systems (over 50 years), minimizing embodied carbon related to maintenance, replacement, or demolition.

Technical Support for Certifications and Compliance

VM Group not only supplies components, but also process engineering to achieve international standards.

We assist designers and general contractors in calculating expected energy savings and preparing the necessary documentation for:

  • Environmental Certifications: LEED, BREEAM, and ITACA protocols.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Compliance with minimum requirements for NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Buildings).

  • Tax Incentives: Technical support for accessing tax deductions related to in-depth energy efficiency improvements to the building envelope.
